Nailfold Capillaroscopy in Rheumatic Diseases: Which Parameters Should Be Evaluated?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Video nailfold capillaroscopy (NFC), considered as an extension of the widefield technique, allows a more accurate measuring and storing of capillary data and a better defining, analyzing, and quantifying of capillary abnormalities. Capillaroscopic study is often performed on the patients suspected of having microcirculation problems such as Raynaud's phenomenon as the main indication for nailfold capillaroscopy. Capillaroscopic findings based on microcirculation studies can provide useful information in the fields of pathophysiology, differential diagnosis, and monitoring therapy. Nailfold capillaroscopy provides a vital assessment in clinical practices and research; for example, its reputation in the early diagnosis of systemic sclerosis is well established and it is also used as a classification criterion in this regard. This review focuses on the manner of performing video nailfold capillaroscopy and on a common approach for measuring capillary dimensions in fingers and toes.

Clinical Applications of Nailfold Capillaroscopy in Different Rheumatic Diseases
Microvascular involvement in systemic inflammatory diseases has been well known more than one hundred years. Abnormal microangiopathy of nailfold often occurs in systemic rheumatic diseases, especially in scleroderma, Raynaud's phenomenon and related conditions.Nailfold capillaroscopy uses a lens that allows analysis of the capillary morphology and microcirculation of nailfold. Recently, the vi...

Nailfold capillaroscopy is a simple, noninvasive and inexpensive method which allows a functional and morphological study of the capillary network through direct visualization of the distal row of periungueal capillaries of the fingers. This method has been used as a diagnostic auxiliary in diseases such as scleroderma, dermatomyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus and mixed connective tissue d...

The capillary loop consists of an arterial or afferent branch and a venous or efferent branch. The main parameters to be evaluated are: length, diameter, density, venous plexus and morphological abnormalities. These elements should be evaluated in the distal row or near the nailfold. The normal number of capillaries per millimeter is from seven to twelve arranged in an inverted U-shape (Figure 1).

OBJECTIVE Nailfold capillaroscopy is an important tool for the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with rheumatic diseases, in particular dermatomyositis and scleroderma. A relationship has been observed in adults between improved capillaroscopic findings and reduced disease activity. Our aim was to correlate disease activity (clinical and laboratory data) and nailfold capillaroscopy findings i...
متن کاملNailfold Capillaroscopy in 430 patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
Background: Microvascular changes are one of the first obvious steps in numerous inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Nailfold video capillaroscopy (NFC) is an easy, reliable and safe method for evaluating peripheral microangiopathy. The objective of this study was to examine nailfold microcirculation in RA patients, assess morphological and structural changes quantitatively...
